Fort Hood

Relocating to Fort Hood comes with a tight timeline and a lot of moving parts. Whether this is your first PCS or one of many, the process can feel rushed—and that’s where most people make mistakes.

Here’s what matters.

Step 1: Decide Early – Rent or Buy

This is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make.

Buying can make sense if:

  • You plan to stay 3+ years
  • You want to build equity instead of paying rent
  • You’re comfortable navigating the process remotely (Our team and done this thousands of times, you'd be in good hands)

Renting may be better if:

  • Your timeline is uncertain
  • You want time to learn the area
  • You prefer flexibility

This is where people get it wrong—waiting too long to decide limits your options.

Step 2: Understand the Areas Around Killeen and Fort Hood

Each area offers something different:

  • Killeen → closest to base, more affordable
  • Harker Heights → quieter, more established
  • Belton / Temple → longer commute, stronger appreciation trends
  • Copperas Cove → Cav side of the base and more of small town feel

There’s no “best”—it depends on your priorities.

Step 3: Get Pre-Approved Before You Arrive

Let me be clear—this is not optional if you plan to buy a home.

A pre-approval:

  • Defines your budget
  • Strengthens your offer
  • Allows you to move quickly

Without it, you’re behind before you start.

Step 4: Be Ready to Act Quickly

Homes near Fort Hood—especially in good areas—move fast.

If you’re:

  • Waiting until arrival
  • Browsing casually
  • Not fully prepared
  • Not pre-approved

You’ll miss opportunities.

Step 5: Work With Someone Who Knows Military Moves

This is not a typical move.

You need someone who understands:

  • Remote / Virtual showings
  • Tight timelines
  • VA loan structure
  • Contingency planning

Final Thought

A PCS move doesn’t have to feel chaotic—but it does require a plan.

The more prepared you are upfront, the smoother everything goes.
